STAFFING CRISIS
Today, EMS2 (Central Station Supervisor) was out of service from 14:00 to 18:00 due to staffing, putting the county below minimum staffing of Paramedics for 4 hours. This staffing shortage required mandatory overtime for two employees. One of our Paramedics was forced to stay from 6AM until 2pm, and another Paramedic coming in at 6pm before their shift.
The Department of Emergency Services currently has 10 full time vacancies out of 40 total allowed full time Paramedic positions. This is a whole shift worth of Paramedics short. Our Paramedics are frequently incurring mandatory overtime because of this.
