Hello everyone! Welcome to our very first #MedicMonday! Every few weeks we will be introducing one of our members to you all with a brief interview. Our hope is that we will be more than just strangers that show up when you have an emergency; that we will be familiar and friendly faces that you see in your community every day! Please join us in welcoming our very own Nicole Hoffman for our very first #MedicMonday! Nicole is currently assigned to Paramedic 1 (Colora station) on D Shift!
Name: Nicole Hoffman
How long have you been with Cecil County/Local 4645?: 4 years, 5 years in October.
When did you start in EMS?: I started in EMS in 2014.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?: The obvious cliché answer, helping people. Being able to bring a sense of calm to someone’s stressful time of need. The not cliché, not being stuck behind a desk or in a building; constantly moving around.
Tell us about your life outside of work: I volunteer at Havre De Grace Ambulance Corp (Harford County) but that has slowed down tremendously since having my 2 children; 1-year-old and 2-year-old. I have loved becoming a mother and can’t imagine my life without my babies. I enjoy gardening, having cookouts with family and friends, the beach, and listening to a good throwback playlist. Simplest pleasure at the moment is getting to finish a cup of coffee without having to reheat it!
What is an interesting fact about you that people might not know?: I was about to apply to nursing school when my parents had to call 911 for me after almost passing out after a CrossFit workout. Come to find out I had Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome causing me to be in SVT. I thought EMS seemed interesting (after being stabilized by the EMS crew) and changed career paths.
